Acting on an anonymous tip, police searched the attic of an upstairs apartment in New London, Ohio, rented by Abbi's 20-year-old boyfriend, Robert Young. That's where they found the runaway hiding.
The girl was taken to a police station, where she gave the names of those who had helped her run away, according to The Sandusky Register.
"She was glad to see us. She told her mother she was ready to go home," Abbi's father, James, told The Norwalk Reflector.
Abbi Obermiller, the Ohio teen who went missing three weeks ago, was found safe and well on Wednesday in the attic of her boyfriend's apartment.
Abbi vanished from her grandparents' home the evening of June 6. The girl left a cryptic note reading, "I just couldn't take any more of this drama. ... Hope to see you soon when all this blows over. Love, Abbi."
Today, Abbi met briefly with her parents and grandparents before being taken to the county juvenile detention facility. At a detention hearing, she was found guilty of obstructing official business and being an unruly child.
The judge ordered her to stay at the Erie County juvenile detention facility for at least another week.
According to her parents, Abbi was a well-behaved student who got straight A's at school and dreamed of being an oncologist. Relations between the girl and her parents had become troubled since she began dating Young, who the parents described as "very possessive."
"He didn't even want her near her friends during prom," Abbi's mother, Rose Obermiller, told Fox News on June 27. "She had this beautiful prom dress and she had to sit on the sidelines."
Young denied any involvement in Abbi's disappearance. Police told Fox News that Young sent Abbi a string of text messages telling her when to leave the house.
Young is now in custody at the Huron County Jail, according to the Norwalk Reflector.
