The kids were grown and scattered across the country but still kept in close touch. He retired early and worked part time to take care of her. After her 15th straight day bed ridden and being told the present medication is all they could do for her she turned to her husband slowly and said "Id understand if you left. There is nothing anyone can do for me." He said Well of course there is something I can do for you." She asked fighting back tears "Whats that?" he responded trying to show her strength "Be here." She asked "Why? Why put yourself through my pain?" He answered with a smile while fighting back tears of his own "Because I love you." Her tears more prevalent now but she still managed a slight smile and asked "Whats love got to do with it?" He responded almost mirroring her tears and smile and answered "Everything." He removed the tray of food and tea from her bed and leaned over and gave her a hug. She said so softly in his ear "I love you too. I always have and I always will." He knew that was her last breath but couldnt pull himself away from her embrace..... he thought out loud and felt she could hear him "Love has everything to do with it. it always has and it always will....."
